Sent in a group of 5 Saints to NGC
$20 to be regraded from an inferior company named CCGS:
1909 S MS64 1911 MS64 1914 MS64 1915 MS64 1927 MS66 and one little $10 Indian 1932 MS65 If they come back okay I'll register my humble collection of Saints with NGC. I must have some 37 Saint traders all PCGS/NGC MS62 - MS65. |
Re: Sent in a group of 5 Saints to NGC
If the listed grades are the ones assigned by CCGS, you can probably expect them to come back graded MS61 and MS62 from NGC......at best.

Re: Sent in a group of 5 Saints to NGC
I know that the grades will be lower - that's why I got a good deal on them - to begin with.
The thing is "how much lower?" Right - I'm paid for MS 60s |

Frankly. Master HO, I've done some serious studying on grading coins. Hours in books and a few of those VHS tapes. I expect a LOT of MS63s - :bear_thumb: Now, having said that - I'm not really sharp on "altered surfaces." So it's also a little like an adventure. One that I can really get screwed on. :banghead: I requested they NOT break out any coin they can NOT grade. That was my POOR defense. :thumpdown But I wanted my whole series of dates to be PCGS or NGC; so I took the risk. Pride comes before the FALL. :puke: |

From various old capsules to NGCs AU58 1852 to AU55 AU58 1853 to AU55 AU50 1854 lg. date to XF45 AU50 1857-S to XF45 Then 6 that were graded MS60 came back AU58: 1878 to 1894 S0, I know the drill;and I graduated from the SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS! :banghead: It was SUB-college of FARUK U. (University) located in the Country of Far, Far and Away. But it became real close and personal. :thumpdown By the way if you would like a 1893 $20 liberty looks AU58 - but came back PCGS altered surface - #22110224 - cheap - let me know, right? |

Both my first body bags were RAW coins sent in with altered surfaces; and LATER one came back with rim damage (I at first wished they'd let it slide!). One a Saint and this Liberty and another foreign gold coin. The Saint I traded back to the shop I bought it from for Sovereigns. It is said that many (high percentage) of RAW coins are given CONSERVATION - meaning dressed-up and spiffed-out. NGC even offered me conservation for 2 of my recent MS62 1925 Sovereigns. But it was not worth the expense just to me. Conservation: Kinda like putting RED lipstick on a fat PINK PIG and hoping it will Fly - way up in price. |
Re: Sent in a group of 5 Saints to NGC
Most all grades redone by NGC and PCGS will result in lower grading, I have seen many of these advertised as such at the larger coin shows. That's the biggest problem with Nusimatic investments is that gradins is subjective and sets a price, I would always avoid higher grade coins from lesser respected companies, most are just grading mills.

I have even done the same, in a couple of instances, with coins from NGC, cross-grading to PCGS. Those are easier cause NGC grades better than the third-rate graders (and I think PCGS likes putting their label on coins previously slabbed by NGC! :D ) Quote:
Pride? Not so sure its pride - more like standardization.........but heck, one SHOULD have pride in their numismatics.........not excessive pride, of course, just a little pride! Whats the point of collection of you have no pride in what you gather?? Cheers! |

Re: Sent in a group of 5 Saints to NGC
Since were talking about slabed coins I got a couple of questions for you guys First off I have never bought anything graded and slabed before but the local shop I get my eagles at ran out and he sold me these at $25.00 each I didnt want to buy them twice the price I normaly pay for silver eagles but I had some extra coin so what the hell
There all graded and slabed by some company called "PCI" never heard of them myself maybe one of you guys have Also all are graded 100% white but have a goldish and blush discolored ring where it looks like air got in So This is what I got 2 X 2000 MS67 1999 MS67 2000 MS69 3 X 2001 MS69 So thats seven coins total for 175.00 did I get ripped off??????? |
Re: Sent in a group of 5 Saints to NGC
you didnt get ripped off since grading is about $10 bucks per coin...but the whole grading procedure for new bullion coins is unnecessary and you probably wont be able to recoup those grading fees in the future...better hope silver hits over $25 per ounce.

Re: Sent in a group of 5 Saints to NGC
Anything physical for a couple of bucks more ($10 read) is just that = a higher basis you paid for it/them to have more of it/them.
Period. A premium that you may or may not recover at 100% - but, you have the physical - and in a slightly different form. 100% held free & clear with no margin or leverage - that you can hold till the crows (read the next big few waves through about 2012 - 2017) come home to DADDY. You've stuck your toe in NUMISMATICS. Study & collect all you can because it will PROBABLY pay off in the future. |
